1. DELIVERING 18,000 WELL-PAID JOBS WITH OUR POST-BREXIT FREEPORT
We're ensuring that Teesside's future is bright, as we deliver our plan to create 18,000 jobs at our Freeport & Teesworks, meaning nobody should have to move away for well-paid work.
- SeAH wind is investing over £600 BILLION into a new wind turbine monopile manufacturing plant, creating nearly 1000 jobs. This is the largest investment from a South Korean company ever.
- We're bringing back Steelmaking, with British Steel set to open an Electric Arc Furnace at their Lackenby site, creating 200 new jobs.
- Our Plan is working. 2,000 jobs already created, unemployment at a record low, well on target to delivering the 18,000 we set out to.
2. CUTTING CRIME WITH OVER 300 NEW POLICE OFFICERS ON OUR STREETS
In 2019, the Government set out to recruit 20,000 new police officers and has delivered on that pledge. Cleveland has over 300 new officers patrolling it's streets, with more on the way too.
- Cleveland Police is improving after Labour let it in 'special measures' and as the worst force in the country.
- We're waging a war on illegal off-road bikes. Over 600 bikes were caught last year, more than the rest of the North East combined.
- New 'hotspot policing' and funding for street wardens, meaning anti-social behaviour hotspots get the support they need.
3. ENSURING TEESSIDERS HAVE THE SKILLS THEY NEED TO ACCESS JOBS
We're ensuring that Teessiders can get the skills they need to access the thousands of well paid jobs we're creating.
- Jacob Young has secured £5m for Redcar & Cleveland College to build a specialist All Access Academy, training young people in working at height and scaffolding.
- As part of the Town Deal, R&C College has invested £3.2m in a Clean Energy Hub, training people for the jobs of the future.
- We've also secured funding in this years budget for a brand new school in TS6, to provide support to those children who need it.
4. LEVELLING UP OUR HIGH STREETS WITH OVER £100M SECURED
In 2019, we promised to level-up left behind communities across the country, and I've helped secure over £100 million levelling up funding for our area, including:
- £25m Town Deal for Redcar, including demolishing the old M&S and Woolworth's buildings to a new leisure facility, as well as £10m for the new Regent Cinema.
- In TS6, £20m Levelling Up money for Eston Square & Eston Baths, and an additional £20m to be spent by a new Town Board across TS6 including Grangetown, Whale Hill & Lazenby.
- Further £20m Levelling Up Partnership to redevelop Redcar Train Station and new CCTV for anti-social behaviour hotspots.
5. A GREEN INDUSTRIAL FUTURE FOR REDCAR & CLEVELAND
Teesside under Conservative leadership is set to lead the UK's Green Industrial Revolution, creating sustainable, well-paid, future proofed jobs for Teessiders.
- Net Zero Teesside has been approved, a £1.5bn investment on the site of the former blast furnace, creating 4,000 jobs.
- £150m Circular Fuels fuel-from-waste facility, alongside a sustainable aviation fuel plant.
- Campaigning for a Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor manufacturing plant here on Teesside, to create 100's of jobs.
6. PROTECTING THE IDENTITY OF MARSKE, NEW MARSKE, AND SALTBURN
Our coastal villages and towns, Marske, New Marske, and Saltburn, are special places. I know how passionate local residents are about keeping them that way, so I'll always be onside to protect them.
- I won't support new developments between Marske and Redcar that compromise the crucial strategic gap.
- Car Parking - I want to see free parking remain in Marske, and a considered approach to new parking spaces in Saltburn.
- Campaigning for Marske and Saltburn, with growing populations, to have the services they need, such as a new GP and school.
