Tomorrow Labour are introducing car parking charges on Redcar High Street for the first time in over a decade.
They keep blaming Ben Houchen but they forget that some of us have lived here all our lives, and we weren’t born yesterday.
Here’s the facts, we’ve had free parking in Redcar as long as I remember - well before Ben Houchen was even elected as our mayor - and these are the Council’s car parks, not TVCA’s.
… We used to have free after 1PM
… Then in 2015 it was changed to one hour free
… For the last two years Ben Houchen funded free two hours
… Now our Labour Council are scrapping it altogether
This will damage our high street right at the time when it needs help the most.
And rather than reducing the amount of free time available (going back to one hour), or adding a nominal charge like other high streets… Labour have gone the full whack.
£1.60 for one hour.
£3.80 for two hours.
£6 for three hours… who’re they kidding.
They themselves have said that people cannot afford punitive parking charges and before the local elections they campaigned against parking charges.
They say one thing to get elected, and do the complete opposite when they’re in power. #SameOldLabour
