I have written to the Boundary Commission today, requesting they formally consider renaming the Redcar Constituency to better reflect its make up.
The suggestions I have put forward include:
- Redcar & Cleveland
- Greater Eston & Redcar
- Greater Eston & Coast
- South Tees
I believe these options better reflect the make up of our area and give parity to the rest of my constituency.
As I say in my letter to the commissioners, 65% of my constituents don’t live in Redcar - so why should the Constituency be called Redcar.
For some people this is a minor consideration - and I understand their arguments. There are bigger things to focus on. However, the TS6 area has consistently been ignored by our politicians locally, and as long as I am the MP here I will argue for fairness across all of Redcar & Cleveland.
