This morning Jacob Young MP for Redcar & Cleveland visited the Teesworks Site as the process of starting to demolish the blast furnace begins, additionally further works at the BOS Plant and at SBCO are also taking place.
Jacob reacts to the demolition on his social media page:
"This is the beginning of a significant change in our skyline, with the main conveyor being taken from the blast - and chimneys at the BOS being removed. We always knew this was coming, but it’s a bittersweet moment. The Blast Furnace has stood there since 1979, and for many reminds them of the Iron & Steel that made our region great. But now we can look to a new future for the site, and the thousands of jobs we hope to bring here - not in the Carbon heavy industries of the past, but new clean green industry."
