This week, Jacob Young MP shared new legislation announced by government to tackle channel crossings.
This will take the form of a new Nationality and Borders Bill, intended to:
- Fix the UK's broken Asylum system
- Target people smugglers
- Strengthen the border
- Deter illegal immigration
- Create more safe routes to asylum
So far this year, the UK has prevented more than 5000 people from crossing the channel.
However, according to Migration Watch, it is predicted that approximately 5906 people have entered the country this way, illegally, in the same year.
Posting about the new Bill on Facebook, Jacob wrote: "Post Brexit, our immigrations system has to be fair but firm, and prevent people from jumping the queue."
