Today, Jacob Young spoke up in Parliament about the current gaps in Britain's COVID-19 Care Homes testing programme. Speaking in the House of Commons, Jacob highlighted the fact that there are still two key groups of people excluded from testing by Care homes: Care agency staff and the relatives/visitors of Care Home residents.
In some cases, Care Home residents have been unable to receive visits from their loves ones since the start of the first national lockdown in March. Mr. Young feels this is unacceptable, stating in his speech that to allow Care Home visitors access to regular testing would: "help lift some of the hardship on the most vulnerable in our society."
In response, Matt Hancock (Secretary of State for Health and Social Care) confirmed that when it comes to Care Home visitations, he too would: "like to see a testing regime be able to work to make visiting easier."
Following on from his question in the House, Jacob has also written a letter to the local Director of Public Health, urging him to prioritise the safe facilitation of Care Home visits. This letter was sent the same day and was signed by both Jacob Young, MP for Redcar and Simon Clarke, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.
