Today I had the pleasure of visiting Saltburn Animal Rescue Association, otherwise known as SARA's. They are based out at Kirkleatham and offer shelter for stray dogs and cats, as well as those who are waiting to be re-homed.
It is safe to say that the pandemic has been a struggle for them, with a lot less volunteers available to lend a hand with the usual dog walking and gardening. However, I am pleased to say that their charity shop will be opening on site, at the centre itself, shortly. The facilities they have at SARAs are wonderful and it was great to meet some of the team and find out some more about what they do on a daily basis.
Whilst visiting, I also had the opportunity to chat to Anne and her manager about their thoughts on the upcoming Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill. The bill intends to extend the imprisonment time for animal abusers - from six months to five years. This is a much needed change from the current system and will be coming to the House of Commons in two weeks time.
