STANDING UP FOR INDUSTRY
This week I spoke in the House of Commons in support of the Chemical Industry in Teesside - specifically in relation to Tariffs affecting companies like Alpek.
Following this intervention, the Secretary of State for International Trade agreed to a meeting with me on this subject.
Having spent 9 years working and training in Teesside’s Chemical Industry, protecting and developing our Industry is not only central to my mission as your MP, but it is personal to me as well.
The plastic and petrochemical industry gets a bad rep from groups like extinction rebellion - but I know from my work there, the efforts made to reduce our impact on the environment and how much worse things would be without our industry at all.
Alpek provides vital packaging for food, pharmaceuticals and PPE - it is also working on new projects to improve plastic recycling from things that can’t currently be recycled in the UK.
Our industry provides jobs for thousands of people in Teesside and I will always stand up for those jobs - I’m grateful to the Secretary of State for recognising that in her answer.
