IMPROVING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
I am determined to improve the opportunities for young people in Redcar & Cleveland and these are great first steps from the Government.
Today the KICKSTART scheme launches, giving job and training opportunities for young people across the UK.
Kickstart is a £2 Billion fund, to create hundreds of thousands of high quality, 6-month work placements for young people - with funding for wages and NI contributions.

In addition to Kickstart, employers are being offered £2,000 for each new apprentice they hire aged under 25, and £1,500 for each newly recruited apprentice aged 25 and over. This includes taking on an apprentice who has been made redundant.
Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to get into the world of work and employers are more and more keen to recruit people with this type of experience.

Getting that first foot in the door is so important as I found out in my own experience as an apprentice on Teesside. These schemes combined will boost what’s on offer for our young people and combat long-term youth unemployment.
