Following the recent government announcement that the UK will be moving to Stage 4 of lockdown easing in July, Redcar MP Jacob Young raised the question of unnecessary self-isolation in the House of Commons. He argued the point that more testing could be utilised to avoid this.
Jacob stated the following:
"I’m glad we’re moving to step 4.
I’ve said for a long time now that what’s needed is common sense and personal responsibility.
We should be cautious, it’s right to be - if we want this to be irreversible we have to be.
And we should be courteous - acknowledging that others may not feel safe until the virus is less prevalent.
Cases are rising yes, but hospitalisations are not rising in the same way - deaths certainly not - and the length of stay for hospital admissions is shorter too.
Chris Whitty says two doses of a Covid vaccine results in over a 90% reduction in the chance of hospitalisation.
Our vaccine rollout is working and providing the wall against another Covid wave - but for it to work it’s best we should all be focussed on getting our jab.
We have to get rid of restrictions at some point, and if not now, when?"
