Redcar and Cleveland MP, Jacob Young, has today launched a short story competition: 'Writing with Jacob,' in support of improving literacy in the local area. The competition is open to all KS2 students in the constituency and will close for submissions on the 19th February. The local representative hopes this is a project that young pupils may enjoy working on during the third national lockdown in England.
Jacob is inviting children to write an interesting short story of no longer than 500 words. Stories can be of any genre or subject and the winner will be announced via Jacob's community and social channels on World Book Day (4th March 2021).
Mr. Young says that he: "looks forward to judging the works of our budding young writers."
With two winners to be announced, one for the year 3/4 category and one for the year 5/6 category, Mr. Young is hopeful that lots of young residents will get involved.
This is not the first competition the MP has run for children in his constituency; Jacob previously ran a Christmas card competition in December 2020, with the winners design adorning the front of his own Christmas card.
Best of luck to those entering his latest community challenge!
