This afternoon, Jacob Young MP for Redcar, announced the latest bid for the Government's Levelling Up Fund - a new, proper pier in Redcar.
The Council and MP have requested £50,000 to explore the options for a horizontal pier.
Jacob says these plans form part of a wider regeneration at Coatham, which includes the new Regent, water sports centre and new hotel.
Jacob later quoted: "This is a first step, and only a small step as the money is not guaranteed, we would need to develop a proper business case and get all sorts of planning permissions in place."
"But nevertheless this is something I've wanted to see for Redcar for ages and I know many of you have too."
